Holding all your securities in one account gives you many benefits and allows us to minimize your capital-gains taxes

While we draw upon the best thinking of many of the best fund managers in the world, we do not disperse control of your assets to the four corners of the earth. In fact, we do the opposite.

We ask you to open a custody account— in your name, not ours— at Charles Schwab & Company. We ask you to transfer your current holdings to that account and give us authorization to trade the account.

Having all of your holdings in a custody account at Schwab gives you direct control of and ownership of every single security. Your holdings are not pooled with those of other investors. You always know exactly what you own and the value of all your holdings. Schwab ensures that no one but you can withdraw money from or transfer money out of your account without your signature.

If you currently have money tied up in investments that are not market traded and may be of uncertain value, we can work with you to convert those investments to cash. Adding that cash to your portfolio account at Schwab maximizes the liquidity, value certainty and portability of your portfolio. You know what you own. You know its value. You can liquidate it or move it at will.

When we trade your securities from a single, insulated account that is in your name, we are able to provide you with additional portfolio-management benefits:
We can minimize tax liabilities that trades generate. We can postpone the sale of securities that have appreciated in value until their gains become long-term gains. Academic studies show that effective tax management of your trading account easily can add between ___% and ___% to your portfolio’s after-tax return every year.
We can ensure that one fund manager doesn’t buy the same security that another fund manager is selling. Thereby we can ensure that trades do not create wash sales and lose money unnecessarily by giving up both sides of bid-ask spreads.
If you instruct us to do so, we can freeze securities you own that have a low tax basis. If you freeze low-tax-basis securities and pass them on to your heirs, then, when your heirs acquire the securities, they get a tax-free bump of the tax basis of the securities to the securities’ prevailing market price. If your heirs sell the securities before they appreciate further, they pay no capital gains tax on the sale.
We can provide you with comprehensive performance reports on all of your holdings cut however you want: in total, by asset class, by fund manager and by any date range you would like to see.

Whenever you have questions about your account, we can generate reports that allow us to respond to your inquiries quickly, fully and specifically.

Whenever we meet with you to review your portfolio’s allocations and performance, our ability to generate custom reports for you will allow us to give you a comprehensive picture quickly and easily. We know your time is valuable. Our reporting capabilities help us to use it as productively and as efficiently as we can.

Through your Omega account, you also will have internet access to our reporting capabilities. Whenever you like, you can generate whatever reports you want to see.
